Students listen to the song and complete the text. The teacher plays the recording twice or more if necessary. Then she checks if students' answers are correct.

Speaking activities

IV. Speaking practice

1. The teacher revises ways of giving advice and conditionals type II.
Giving advice - useful expressions:
- The best thing you can do is to. ........
- If I were you, I wouldn't. ...............
- Why don't you............................
- I don't think you should. ..............
- I strongly advise you to. ...............
- You should/ ought to. ...................
- You could also. .........................
- How about + verb + ing

2. The teacher asks the following questions (she writes the questions on the blackboard).

- What did the girl write on the piece of paper?
- What do some teenagers do when they feel they are not loved?
- If you were the girl, what would you do? Would you leave your home and parents?
- If you could, what questions would you asks her?
- Do you agree with the statement: "Fun is the one thing that money can't buy".

Students work in groups of four, discuss the questions and prepare the answers.
They choose one of them and she or he presents their opinion.

Students ' opinions:

1.
- Good bye. Thanks for everything.
- Don't worry. I'll be back.
- Forgive me, but I have to learn to live on my own.
- I'm sorry, but I can't live with you. You gave me money but you didn't give me the most important thing - love.
- I hoped you would understand me but you didn't. I had everything that money could buy but it wasn't important to me

2.
- They escape from unhappy family life.
- They turn to drugs.
- Some of them prefer the freedom of the streets to unhappy life at home.

3.
- I wouldn't leave my home and parents. My home is the safest place in the world and my parents are my best friends.
- I would talk to my parents about my problems first. Then I would ask my friends for help.
- Leaving home is a form of protest but I wouldn't do that. I think it's stupid to leave home. I would talk to my parents first.
- I'm sure I wouldn't leave my parents because it would hurt them very much.

4.
- Are you happy now?
- Didn't you love your parents?
- How did you meet the man from the motor trade?
- Would you like to meet your parents in the future?
- Was he handsome?
- Did you try to imagine how your parents felt?

V. Homework:

Write her a letter giving her your advice. Use the following plan.

The answer to the last question can be assigned as a written homework for more advanced students ("Fun is the one thing that money can't buy" - do you agree?)
