PROCEDURE: 1. Warm-up: The children guess the subject of the lesson by playing 'Hangman' game. H A L L O W E E N 2. The teacher elicits from the children what they know about the festival, explains 'trick or treat' custom and shows how to make a jack- o'- lantern. 3. The teacher presents a poem 'Jack-o'-lantern'. The children listen and repeat the lines of the poem chorally and individually. Then write it down into their notebooks and draw a jack-o-' lantern. Jack-o'-Lantern I'm sometimes big I'm sometimes small But always round and yellow. When children fix my famous grin Then I'm a scary fellow. 4. The teacher tells about a Halloween party, presents new vocabulary - Halloween costumes using flashcards. The children repeat new words and copy them. 5. The children sing a song 'Ten Little Witches'(adaptation of 'Ten Little Indians') One little, two little, three little witches Four little, five little, six little witches Seven little, eight little, nine little witches Ten witches in the sky. The teacher gives each child a number (from 1-10). While singing the song when they hear their number they should stand up and then sit down. 6. The teacher gives the children homework: a) learn the poem by heart b) draw your favourite Halloween costume SUBJECT: Hallowe'en. Other: co-operation between children, to exercise the children's memory, to develop children's creativity MATERIALS: a poem 'There is a dark, dark street..'; a poster 'Monster Street', a grid for battleships game, realia: a box, a basket, a bottle, flashcards: a house, a ghost PROCEDURE: 1. Warm-up: The children in groups make up a crossword with the password: HALLOWEEN(words in the crossword must refer to the festival). Then they refer their ideas to the whole class. 2. The teacher presents the poem using flashcards and realia. The children try to memorise it saying it together with the teacher. 5. Homework: Draw a picture with Hallowe'en elements and describe it using the structure 'there is/are (minimum 6 sentences) Example: There is a witch over the house. LEVEL: beginners AGE GROUP: 11-12 (6th grade of primary school) TIME: 45 minutes AIMS: Language: revise 'Halloween vocabulary', questions and answers, the structure 'to be afraid of' Other: co-operation, to develop culture awareness of English-speaking countries MATERIALS:'A Fear Survey', 'The Hallowe'en Quiz' PROCEDURE: 1. Warm-up: brainstorming of vocabulary connected with the word 'fear'. The children collect such words as: scared, afraid of, terrified, spooky, haunted, frightened... 2. The class survey. The children individually fill in the following chart. 'A FEAR SURVEY'
Then they sum up the results of the survey and report them to the whole class. For example: 10 students from our class are afraid of teachers. 12 students are afraid of dentists. 3. 'The Hallowe'en Quiz'. The teacher pre-teaches some vocabulary.The children in groups answer 7 questions. Then the teacher gives the correct answers and the children count up their scores.
