(He/She s playing football/swimming.) Alternatively, T gives Ss one minute to work in small groups, writing down all the sports words they know in English. The groups then feed back to the class. Check Ss' pronunciation and spelling. Teacher asks students to listen and repeat new words (exercise 3) Play the recording several times for Ss to listen and repeat. T Checks that Ss use the correct word stress. Point out that the stress is on the first syllable of all the words except gymnastics (where it is on the second syllable). Then Students are asked to match the words and the pictures. T Tells Ss to make a note of the sports that are not in the pictures. Stage 2 Grammar structures: like/love/hate/prefer + -ing (10 minutes) Teacher reads aloud the question (Which sports do you like?) and asks individual Ss to read aloud the answers. Check that Ss understand the meaning of like, love, hate and prefer. T draws Ss' attention to the -ing form used after these verbs. (If Ss ask, T points out that we can also use a noun, e.g. / hate tennis.) Teacher elicits similar sentences from individual Ss about the sports they love/like/hate and prefer. T asks the class to repeat the Yes/No questions and answers Stage 3 Practice ( 23 minutes) Listen and read. T asks Ss to look at and talk about the photo (Who can you see? What are they doing?), plays the recording several times for Ss to listen and read. Teacher checks Students refer to the dialogue and say which sports the children like. T checks that Ss use the correct form of the present simple in their answers. Speak. T asks Ss to look at the pictures in Exercise 1. and asks individual Ss: Do you like …...? to elicit Yes, I do /No, I don't. Teacher works through the dialogue with the class, eliciting sports words to complete the questions and answers. Speak. T gives Ss time to look at the chart then asks two Ss to read aloud the example dialogue. Ss work in pairs, using the information in the chart to ask and answer questions about Jack, Laura and Harry. Monitor and draw students' attention to any errors for them to self-correct or peer-correct. Listen. T plays the recording several times for Ss to listen and complete the chart. Then T checks students' answers. Ask individuals to make sentences, e.g. The girl loves/likes swimming and playing volleyball.
