Aims : - to introduce the topic - to raise the students’ interest and motivation Interaction : - ind. work Time : - 5 min Procedure : As the introduction and warm-up the teacher provides the students with a quiz “Are you a film buff ?” ( App 1 ). Students are to get familiar with it and then answer the nine questions somehow connected with the topic, which is the film. Feedback: the students count the points and find out how much they enjoy watching films. They discuss their results in pairs. The teacher checks who is the biggest “film buff“. Activity 2. Aims: - to get the students involved in the topic - to activate the students’ schemata - to make them speak Interaction: - T-SS , SS-T Time: - 8 min Procedure: The teacher shows to the students pictures, photos ( App 2 ) from popular films of the recent years and provokes a discussion on the topic through asking questions such as: - Have you seen the film ? - Do you know the title ? - What type of film is it ? - Who plays the main role ? - Do you know who directed the film ? - Did you enjoy it ? Why / Why not ? - Would you recommend this film ? The teacher involves as many students as possible. He tries to elicit from the students words connected with the topic. Activity 3. Aims: - to raise the students’ interest and motivation - to present film vocabulary using a film poster - to make them work more independently Interaction: - work in pairs Time: - 5 min Procedure: The students work in groups of four. They are shown the poster of the new film ( App 3 ). On the basis of it, they are to collect as many pieces of information about it as they can ( title, cast, director, music, strap line, the students’ 1st impression ). Feedback: each group collects the information and then compares it with other groups. They express their feelings about the film poster. Activity 4. Step 1. Aims: - to make the students interested - to make the students practise reading skills - to make the students work on the order of paragraphs Interaction: - work in pairs Time: - 8 min Procedure: The students work in pairs. The teacher provides them with the review of the new film with K. Reeves “Constantine“. They are to read it and match the descriptions ( a-d ) with the paragraphs (1-4) ( App 4 ). a. the writer’s recommendation b. facts about the film c. an evaluation of the film d. a description of the plot Feedback: The teacher checks the students’ work. Later on he provides the students with the model plan of a review they are to stick to while working on it in further stages of the lesson. Activity 2. Aims: - to focus the students attention on the specific information Interaction: - ind . work Time: - 5 min Procedure: The students are to read the review again and they are to report on the film, taking into account following issues : - the type of film - when and where the action takes place the story - the characters - the cast - advantages / disadvantages Feedback: After the activity, the teacher asks the questions and the students report the collected information. Activity 5. Step 1. Aims: - to elicit from the students the knowledge they already have - to involve them in the activity - to make the students work on the matching task Interaction: - T-SS , SS-T Time: - 6 min Procedure: The teacher asks the students what types of film they know. He tries to elicit from them as many types as possible presenting the ideas on the wordmap on the board. Then, he asks the students to have a look at the exercise ( App 5 ) in which they are to match the pictures with the types of films they are taken from. Step 2. Aims: - to make the students work on the matching task Interaction: - ind. work ; T-SS , SS-T Time: - 5 min Procedure: The students are to match the popular film titles to the types of films. Aims: - to focus the students‘ attention on the text - to make the students work with the text Interaction: - ind.work Time: - 3 min Procedure: The students get back to the review of “Constantine“. The teacher asks them what other information can be included in the very first paragraph of the review. The students, in pairs, are to underline the information such as: title of the film, director, place it is set in, what the story is about. Feedback: the teacher asks the students to report the information to him. Homework: The students are given a review of a film with Penelope Cruz and Matthew McConaughey “Sahara“ ( App 6 ). Its parts are put in a wrong order. The students’ task is to arrange them in a correct sequence.
