“How do you do” by Roxette

I. Pronunciation and listening practice.
Read aloud only the pairs of words in bold. Listen to the song and circle the words you hear.

I see you comb / come
your hair and gimme that grin / green.
It's making me spin now, spinnin' within.
Before I melt like snow, I say Hello -
How do you do!

I love the way you are dressed / you undress now.
Baby begin.
Do your caress, honey / money, my heart's in a mess.
I love your blue-eyes / blue-eyed voice,
like Tiny Tim shines thru.
How do you do! How do you do!

Well, here we are crackin' jokes in the corner of our mouse / mouths
and I feel like I'm laughing / loving in a dream.
If I was young I could wait outside your school
cos your lace / face is like the cover of a magazine

CHORUS: How do you do, do you do, the things that you do.
No one I know could ever keep / meet up with you.
How do you do!
Did it ever make / made sense to you to say Bye Bye Bye?

I see you in the / that chair with the perfect skin.
Well how have you been, baby, livin' in sin?
Hey, I gotta go / know, did you say Hello -
How do you do? How do you do?

Well, here we are spending time in the larger / louder part of town
and it feels / seems like everything's surreal.
When I get old / cold I will wait outside your house
cos your heads / hands have got the power meant to heal.
CHORUS

II. Colloquial expressions.
Look at the words: gimme, spinnin', crackin', livin', cos, thru, gotta, (+ gonna). Are they formal or colloquial? What do they mean?

III. Writing and reading aloud.
Write sentences or short dialogues with these words using both informal and formal style. Next present your dialogues to the class. Individual or pair work.

IV. Making definitions (words which are both nouns and verbs).
Match the words with their definitions. Students are given 9 slips of paper with the following words: comb, grin, spin, melt, caress, mess, crack, sin, heal and have to match them with their synonyms, definitions written on 9 separate slips:

to break –
to touch gently –
to break a religious or moral law –
