Act 4 Juliet’s bedroom

Juliet: Yes, that dress is the best one. But now, dear Nurse, please leave me. I want to be alone tonight.
[Lady Capulet comes in.]
Lady Capulet: Are you busy? Do you need my help?
Juliet: No, Madam. I’ve chosen everything that I need for tomorrow. So please leave me alone now. Nurse can stay with you tonight. I’m sure you are all very busy with this sudden wedding.
Lady Capulet: Goodnight then. Sleep well. You need to rest.
[Lady Capulet and the Nurse go out.]
Juliet [ sitting on her bed]: Goodbye! I don’t know if we’ll ever meet again. There’s a cold fear running through my body. I’ll call them back again. [calling] Nurse! No, I must do this terrible thing alone . [ taking out the bottle]. There’s no fresh air in that dark place. I’ll die or I’ll go crazy with fear. The bodies of the dead Capulets have been there for hundreds of years. Tybalt’s body is lying there too! Oh look! [music] I think I can see Tybalt now. He’s looking for Romeo. Stop, Tybalt! Romeo, Romeo! I drink to you! [ She drinks medicine and falls on her bed. The audience listens to music]
[the Nurse goes to Juliet’s bedroom]
Nurse: Juliet! My lady! Come on, get up, don’t be so lazy! Well, sleep then. [ laughing] You won’t get much sleep tonight. [ to herself ]. She is in a very deep sleep. But I have to wake her up. [ to Juliet] Madam, Madam, Madam! All right, Paris can find you in bed. [ looking closely at Juliet] What’s this? Did you sleep in your clothes last night? Lady, Lady! [ she shakes Juliet’s and starts to scream] help. Help! My lady’s dead! Sir! Madam! Come quickly!
[Lady Capulet hurries in.]
Lord Capulet: Bring Juliet down. Her husband has come.: Why are you making all this noise?
Nurse [ pointing to Juliet]: Look, look!
Lady Capulet [ looking at Juliet and starting to scream too]: Oh, my child, my life! Wake up, or I’ll die too!
[ Lord Capulet hurries in.]
Lord Capulet: Bring Juliet down. Her husband has come.
Nurse [ crying] She’s dead. She’s dead!
Lady Capulet: She’s dead! It’s terrible!
Lord Capulet: [ feeling Juliet’s body] : She’s cold. Death lies on her like early snow on the sweetest flower in the field..
Nurse: What a terrible day!
[ Friar Lawrence and Paris come in.]
Friar: Come, is Juliet ready to go to church?

Lord Capulet: She’s ready to go there , but never to return [ to Paris] Oh, my son, your wife is dead
[ showing him Juliet’s body] Death has taken her.
Paris: I’ve waited for this day for a long time. But now - it’s terrible!
Lady Capulet: It’s the worst day that has ever happened. I had only one child – one child to make me happy. And now death has taken her from me.
Nurse: Oh sad, unhappy day!
Paris: I’ve lost everything. Hateful death has taken my love – my love and my life from me.
Lord Capulet: Oh my child, my child. She’s dead- my dear child is dead – and all my happiness has died with her!
Friar: Be quiet, please. All this noise doesn’t help things . You couldn’t keep this lovely this lovely child with you here on earth. But she’s very happy in heaven, so don’ cry for her. Dress her in her best clothes and carry her dead body to church.
Lord Capulet: Everything has changed. We have to take off our bright wedding clothes and put on black ones. Our happy wedding music must change to the sad music of death.
Friar: Sir, and Madam, go and get ready- and you too, Paris. Prepare to follow this lovely young girl to her grave. [ music in the background]
