LEAD-IN

INTERACTION: T – Ss
TIME – 5 minutes
 AIMS
- to warm Ss up by providing them with physical movement
- to revise the parts of the body

 PROCEDURE

After greeting Ss and checking attendance, T stands in front of the group add says: ”I want to check if everyone remembers the rules of the game ‘Simon says’. So, let’play. Simon says: open your books. Yes, very good, you open your books. I say: stand up. You do not stand up, why? (probably Ss give the right answer). Yes, because I did not say Simon says. You remember the rules very well. Let’s try the game again”. Then T gives commands like: open your eyes, close your eyes, jump on your right/left leg, touch your nose/ear/hair/mouth/head. At the end of the activity T says: ”Simon says: sit down, Simon says: listen very carefully”.

STAGE 1 – PRESENTATION

INTERACTION: T – Ss
TIME: 5minutes

 AIMS
- to present adjectives

 PROCEDURE

T hangs on BB two pictures presenting faces of two different women (Appedices:2, 3) and draws their bodies. Then, pointing at particular parts of the body, T says: ”Please, look at the first person. Her name is Patricia. She is really beautiful. She has got big, dark eyes, a small nose and a nice smile. Her hair is long. Patricia is tall and thin. And now look at the second person. She is totally different. She is probably a witch. Her face is ugly. She has got a very big nose and some spots on her face. You see – she has got only one tooth. She is short. Her body is fat. She probably eats a lot of sweets”

PRACTICE – ACTIVITY 1

INTERACTION: individual work
TIME: 5 minutes

 AIMS
- to revise and practise adjectives

 PROCEDURE

Each S gets a handout with two exercises (Appendix 4). In the first task, there are 12 adjectives which appeared in the presentation. Ss’ task is to write down words and match them into Polish. In the second task, Ss are to arrange the adjectives into pairs of opposite meanings. After the practice is finished, Ss read their answers one at
a time.

ACTIVITY 2

INTERACTION: S – S (pair work)
TIME: 10 minutes
 AIMS
- to develop students’ speaking skills

 PROCEDURE

Ss are divided into pairs. They get two different handouts with funny animals (Appendix 4). They are to choose one of the animals and describe it to their partner. The other person identifies the animal from the description. Ss can ask questions to get clarification if they need to. T monitors students’ work and helps if necessary.

ACTIVITY 3 – GAME

INTERACTION: T – Ss, Ss – T, individual work
TIME: 20 minutes

 AIMS
- to make Ss familar with the text about Rose and her cat
- to give Ss an opportunity to make connection in their minds by associating words with gesture
- to practise extensive listening and memory

PROCEDURE

Ss prepare sheets of paper from a sketching pad and coloured pencils. They come to the centre of the classroom and stand in a circle. Standing among them in the circle, T says the rhyme about Rose and her cat very slowly, illustrating it with gestures (Appendix 5). Next, T asks Ss to try to remember as many details as possible. Ss repeat the rhyme, tapping out its rhythm. T says the rhyme once again. This time, Ss illustrate it with gestures. Then Ss go back to their desks, whereas T explains that they are to draw Rose and her cat keeping as many details from the description in the rhyme as possible. After finishing their work, Ss together with T choose three most funny and faithful drawings which they will award. At the next lesson Ss prepare an exhibition of their works.
