CRACOW – LEGENDARY PAST, SOME TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Cracow is the second largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. For centuries Cracow was the capital of Poland, the seat of kings, drawing great scholars and artists from the whole world. Luckily few buildings were bombed there in the Second World War, unlike Warsaw which was almost completely destroyed. Pope John Paul II used to be Archbishop of Cracow. It is the academic centre of Poland. There is no city quite like Cracow. There are thousands of things to do and places to visit for tourists. It has great museums with priceless exhibits, old markets, clean green parks. The renaissance Royal Castle at Wawel, the gothic St Mary's Basilica, the historical trade pavilions of the Cloth Hall, the former separate Jewish city of Kazimierz, and even the Nowa Huta district, absorbed by Cracow together with it's socialist-realist, industrial architecture, are all places which make a visit to Krakow extremely worthwhile. The most famous one is the legend of the Dragon, and the dragon is the symbol of Cracow. Because of this you will need more than one visit to fully explore the place.

Off to Cracow then!
