Język angielski, Konspekty

Why triangular?

Bez wątpienia dobrze przemyślany dobór tematów podnosi motywację uczniów do nauki, wzmaga ich aktywność i ułatwia przyswajanie treści dotyczących najbliższego otoczenia. W wyniku pracy nad projektem powstał cykl lekcji języka angielskiego realizujących założenia tzw. CBI (Content Based Instruction) łączących treści nauczania języka obcego i ścieżki regionalnej.
Materiał i tematykę można oczywiście dostosować do poziomu i wieku uczniów.

The text of the legend

THE LEGEND OF THE TRIANGULAR BRODNICA’S MARKET PLACE

Everybody knows that the very first bricklayer was God Himself.
Long ago, when the world was young like a new born baby, He took a trowel in His hands, threw the rest of tools into the bag, and called for a few angels to help Him carry it. They went down onto the earth to teach people how to build houses.
Soon, it turned out that only few men could do it really well, because some buildings were croocked, the other looked ugly; and some workers simply did not know how to use the tools. Yes, to do it well, one must be skillful. There were only few people so gifted, and God decided to give them the name of bricklayers in order to distinguish them from others.
And so God came to like the bricklayers. He was going everywhere with them; and, if He admired some place, He made, with the trowel, a square sign in there. The sign on the ground meant the shape and size of a new market, and the bricklayers built a new town around it.
One day, God went to a valley, where the Drweca river flows. He liked the place very much and decided to go for a walk to do the sightseeing. To feel more comfortable, He put the trowel on the ground and went to admire the forests, lakes and hills He had created. In the meantime the bricklayers came to the place, and found God’s trowel. Although astonished, they took the shape of the trowel itself for a sign, and started to build another town, as usually – around the tool dropped by their Master.
When God came back to pick up His trowel, He saw a beautiful new town. He congratulated the bricklayers on the good job. Michael, the archangel, told God the town’s name: BRODNICA. God liked the name as much as the town, and said: “Don’t let people change the shape of the market, because it’s the print of my trowel, which is the most useful of all tools. May this sign remind the inhabitants of Brodnica of the value of time (which cannot be wasted). May the people here be decent and hard-working.”
