Duration of the lesson: 45 minutes

Procedure:

Warm up [5 minutes]
- The teacher shows students pictures of emblems and flags of the United Kingdom, the U.S.A. and Poland. S/he explains what the word emblem means. Then s/he asks students if somebody of them has ever been abroad. The students, who have been abroad, tell the class which countries they have visited.
Presentation [25 minutes]
- The teacher informs students that they will talk about political institutions
in the U.K., the U.S.A. and Poland, and writes the subject of the lesson
on a blackboard.
- The teacher hands out one card with a name of a political item to each student and asks the class to divide into groups of three, according to the categories the cards have in common. During this step students should use grammar structures: I have got …, Have you got …?
- The teacher writes new vocabulary at the blackboard and explains unknown words. Then s/he checks whether students have formed the groups properly by asking each group to show their cards to the class and state the category they belong to.
- Next s/he asks students to rearrange themselves into three groups according to nationality, and writes the names of the three mentioned nationalities on the blackboard. Some students come to the blackboard and stick cards
in three columns, under the names of nationalities. The teacher ends this activity by checking if all cards have been stuck in correct places.
Exercises [10 minutes]
- Students write down new vocabulary. They write sentences with these words.
Summing-up [5 minutes]
