After spending his first 10 NFL seasons in Green Bay with the same quarterback and head coach http://www.lionsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-da_shawn-hand-jersey , Jordy Nelson acknowledged it took a little time to adjust to his new environment with the Oakland Raiders.

Nelson got over that fairly quickly and has done his best to fit in and adjust right away, becoming a leader in the receiver room and a trusted target for quarterback Derek Carr.

"He's been a playmaker on the field," coach Jon Gruden said Monday. "He's been a consistent, reliable target at a couple positions. He's been a real good influence behind the scenes. We've been really, really happy with his addition to this team."

Nelson gets the chance to reunite with Aaron Rodgers, coach Mike McCarthy and the rest of his former Packers teammates when Green Bay visits the Raiders on Friday night in an exhibition game.

"Those are the guys you miss that you see day-to-day, that you don't get to talk to as much as you're used to," Nelson said. "It'll be fun to see them. It's kind of enjoyable as a preseason game so we can have some fun and get in and get out."

The 33-year-old Nelson struggled last season with 53 catches for 482 yards and six TDs, recording a career-low 9.1 yards per reception as Rodgers missed more than half the year with injuries. Nelson had 25 catches for 290 yards and all six of his TDs in five games before Rodgers broke his collarbone last season.

Those numbers plummeted once Brett Hundley took over and the Packers released Nelson in March. He signed a two-year deal with the Raiders, who believe he still has burst left in his game.

Carr heard plenty about Nelson from his former college teammate at Fresno State, Davante Adams, who played the past four seasons with Nelson in Green Bay. Carr said the only thing that has surprised him about Nelson is that he still has the speed of a much younger player.

"Everything that you hear about him is what you get," Carr said. "He helps the receiver room raise their level, whether you're the second guy, third guy or you're just trying to make the team, he raises the level for others. It's not only with the way that he practices and works out and the way he takes care of his body and those things, but the way he goes after it mentally. He wants to think like the quarterback. If we throw a ball, we're always communicating. We'll say, 'Hey, if they play it this way, I like it like this.' Just the way he communicates, it rubs off on those young guys, too."

Nelson has plenty of experience. He had four 1,000-yard seasons in Green Bay, including 1 Geronimo Allison Jersey ,519 yards on 98 catches in 2014. In 136 career games, he has 550 catches for 7,848 yards and 69 TDs.

Nelson made the Pro Bowl in 2014 and won AP Comeback Player of the Year in 2016 when he led the league with 14 touchdown catches a year after missing the entire season with a right knee injury.

Once he got comfortable enough with the new offense in Oakland, Nelson has been able to share some of what he learned with younger receivers in Oakland.

"Once I started feeling that out, I've been able to have more conversations with guys and really get into the fine details of maybe some suggestions or ways to help them create more separation, which is what we're all trying to get at the end of the day," he said.

While Nelson and Amari Cooper are entrenched as starters in Oakland, Gruden is still searching for someone to emerge as the third receiver. Martavis Bryant has been in and out of practice and Seth Roberts missed close to two weeks with an injury.

Roberts returned to practice Monday but his time away has allowed Ryan Switzer and Griff Whalen to get more time in the slot in practice with Carr.

"We're all sitting there excited to see what happens," Carr said. "They're all, I think, healthy. We'll see. I think they're all mentally ready, physically ready. Hopefully come game time, we can sit there and we can evaluate that spot."

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — When Andrew Luck gazes over Cincinnati’s defense Sunday, he’ll see some of the league’s top pass rushers.

Defensive tackle Geno Atkins often gets the interior push. Michael Johnson, Carlos Dunlap and Carl Lawson routinely bring the outside pressure.

So with Luck making his first start in more than 20 months, the Cincinnati Bengals hope to make life miserable as the Colts quarterback re-acclimates himself to regular-season life in the NFL.

“My biggest concern, they have a really good front seven,” Luck said. “It’s always a tough defense. Geno Atkins is a heck of a player, (Carlos) Dunlap on the edge, got guys that can cover. So it’s always a challenge.”

Circumstances could make this season opener even more challenging for Indy.

Longtime left tackle Anthony Castonzo missed the entire preseason with a hamstring injury and was limited in practice earlier this week. Denzelle Good, who appeared to be the favorite at right tackle, hasn’t played since hurting his left knee in the third preseason game.

Then there’s rookie left guard Quenton Nelson, the No. 6 pick. He’s likely to draw the assignment on Atkins, and there’s no assurance second-year running back Marlon Mack will return from a hamstring injury that has kept him off the field since the preseason opener. If Mack can’t play, rookies Jordan Wilkins and Nyheim Hines may be asked to help protect Luck Authentic Isaac Yiadom Jersey , one of the league’s highest-paid players.

No, it’s not an ideal start for a quarterback who missed the 2017 season while recovering from surgery on his throwing shoulder.

But the Colts may not have a choice.

“We will do everything we can do to neutralize the pass rush — no matter what five guys are up front,” new coach Frank Reich said. “And that will be No. 1 on the pass game agenda each week: How do you protect the passer?”

The Bengals have other concerns after losing eight straight in Indy.

They’re expecting to face a crowd eager to welcome back Luck and capable of making enough noise to slow down the pass rushers.

“I think everybody there is going to be excited,” Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said. “We know the kind of player that he is. I guess if you’re going to play Andrew Luck, you’d rather be playing him now than Week 12.”

NEW STRIPES

The Bengals debut their redesigned offense under coordinator Bill Lazor after giving a few previews during the preseason. They made more of an effort to get big plays, something missing last season. Andy Dalton looked comfortable with the new playbook in his limited preseason time, completing 71 percent of his passes with four touchdowns, one interception — the receiver fell on his route — and a passer rating of 130.9.

“I feel real comfortable with the way I played,” Dalton said.

DOUBLE DOSE

Last year, in Philadelphia, Reich took advantage of a plethora of solid tight ends.

Expect more of the same this season in Indy.

The Colts signed free agent Eric Ebron, Detroit’s first-round pick in 2014, to help stretch the field as Pro Bowler Jack Doyle continues to exploit the middle. Indy also has former basketball player Eric Swoope and Ryan Hewitt, a former Bengal, on the roster. And all four could play Sunday.

NEW O-LINE

The offensive line was the biggest issue in Cincinnati’s offense finishing last in the league in 2017.

There’s only one returning starter — left guard Clint Boling — as the unit’s been overhauled.

It’ll be the first time that left tackle Cordy Glenn, rookie center Billy Price, right guard Alex Redmond and right tackle Bobby Hart play together in a regular-season game.

RECORD WATCH

Adam Vinatieri’s 23rd NFL season could be the most remarkable of his career.

The four-time Super Bowl champion needs seven field goals to break Morten Andersen’s record (565), five field goals from the 40-49-yard range to take over the top spot from Gary Anderson and 58 points to break Andersen’s mark of 2,544.

How has he done it? By keeping things in perspective.

“You definitely want to start off on the right note,” he said. “We know how important it is, we know how much our owner wants to win this first game. We know how important it is to win at home in front of our home crowd, all the above.”

NO BURFICT

For the fourth straight season, the Bengals will be without linebacker Vontaze Burfict at the outset.

He missed the first six games of 2015 while recovering from a knee injury and has been suspended for the start of each of the past three.

This time, Burfict will miss the first four games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancers.
